13 People Reported Dead After Boat Capsized in East Java

Sumenep, East Java - Thirteen people have been reported dead while 14 others saved after a boat capsized in the waters between Guagua and Tonduk isles in Raas sub-district, Sumenep district, East Java, on Saturday.

Sumenep resort police chief Adjunct Senior Commissioner Susanto said he had received a report from a member of the Raas police sector that "13 have been found dead while 14 others saved. But this is still temporary."

One Missing in Pamekasan Waterfall

Pamekasan, E. Java - An unidentified visitor went missing in a waterfall of Berkong hamlet tourist resort, Kertagena Tengah village, Pamekasan district, Madura Island, East Java province, on Sunday, police confirmed.

Chief of Kadur police precinct, Adjunct Senior Commissioner Syakrani confirmed here on Sunday that an unidentified visitor drowned in a waterfall of Berkong Hamlet, Kertagena Tengah village, Kadur sub-district, East Java.

PT Garam optimistic to achieve salt production target


Sumenep, Madura Island  - State salt producer PT Garam is optimistic that it can achieve the salt production target of 635 thousand tons for 2011 thanks to favorable weather.

"If the weather is stable (throughout this year) we believe that we can achieve the production target of 635 thousand tons for this year," PT Garam President Director Slamet Untung Irredenta said here on Tuesday.

Siti Zaenab Still Under Threat of Arabian Death Penalty

The legal process against Siti Zaenab binti Duhri, an Indonesian house maid sentenced to death in Saudi Arabia in 1999, is not yet over although her execution was prevented by the intervention of two previous Indonesian governments, Foreign Affairs Minister Marty Natalegawa said.

Marty told the press at the presidential office here on Thursday Siti Zaenab was still facing the possibility of being put to death because she had yet to get clemency from the Saudi Arabian government.

Migrant Worker Couple Facing Qisash Penalty in S Arabia


Pamekasan - A migrant worker couple hailing from Pemekasan, Madura, are facing a qisash (en eye for en eye) penalty in Saudi Arabia if they can't pay a sum of money in lieu of having their hands severed.

Relatives of Husin Taufik and Saba'tun, including Husin's brother Makbul, and their daughter, Maria Ulfa, are currently seeking the regional authorities' help to raise Rp250 million to pay the ransom demanded by the Saudi family from whom the couple had allegedly stolen some belongings.

Polisi Gagalkan 36 Imigran Gelap Asal Afghanistan

Pamekasan - Aparat kepolisian dari jajaran Polres Pamekasan, Madura, Jawa Timur berhasil menggagalkan keberangkatan sebanyak 36 imigran gelap asal Afghanistan di wilayah itu.

"Sebanyak 27 orang kami amankan tadi malam, sedang sembilan orang lainnya tadi pagi," kata Kapolres Pamekasan AKBP Anjar Gunadi di Pamekasan, Minggu.
